2014 Retrospective Stem Analysis and Site Index Project

From a forest growth and yield perspective, site index is the most common metric for assessing and quantifying forest land productivity. Comparing natural stand (fire-origin) site index with post-reclamation site index will likely be an important component of demonstrating equivalent land capability for reclaimed land classified for commercial forest end land use. The 2014 project is a continuation of a sister project in 2012, which focused on sampling reclaimed stands within mine leases of Suncor and Syncrude. The major difference is that this project sampled nature mature stands, adjacent to these leases. Methodologies were consistent from the 2012 project for stand/plot selection, as well as sectioning.
