Winter Ecology in the Delta - Hydrology and Hydraulics

The primary purpose of this 2014 winter survey and modelling study was to conduct hydrometric and hydraulic sampling along the lengths of the Embarras River and Fletcher, Goose and Big Point Channels which link the Athabasca River and Lake Athabasca in the Peace-Athabasca Delta (PAD) area. These data were then used to revise the existing hydrodynamic River1D Routing Model for the Upper Peace-Athabasca Delta (R1DPAD), and also the existing River2D (R2D) hydraulic and habitat model created specifically for the Fletcher Channel divergence area. This work contributes to an existing multi-year program commissioned by the Surface Water Technical Group of CEMA to assess the in-stream flow needs for fish and fish habitat in the PAD region and the impact on these from incremental effects oil sands water withdrawals.
