Water, Energy, and Carbon Balance Research

This project evaluated 41 years of total growing season water and carbon flux data over eight sites (four reclamation, four regeneration) using eddy covariance micrometeorological towers. The project was able to successfully compare oil sands reclamation ecosystem historical water and energy balances with ecosystems in early stages of recovery (from harvest and disturbance) in the Western Boreal plain; and synthesize and analyze carbon flux data that has been collected to date on reclamation and recover sites and compare this with mature Western Boreal forest stands.
