The Role of N and S Cycling in Soil Acidification

Concern over increased levels of NOx and SO2 emissions in the Athabasca Oil Sands Region (AOSR) in northern Alberta led to a coordinated project involving limnologists, hydrologists, wetland ecologists, soil scientists and modelers to work together to evaluate the rate of nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) depositions and the responses of ecosystems surrounding the oil sands mining area to N and S depositions.
