A Review of Site Index Estimation Methods Used in Land Capability Calibration Sites in the Athabasca Oil Sands

The project goal is to quantify the relationship between site index and soil capability class in the areas where oil sand activity has occurred and is planned to occur. The intent was for government, companies, and other stakeholders to use the relationship (through a mathematical model) to predict site index and thus estimate the impact (difference in site index) of disturbances on forest productivity. This impact would then be used as some form of legislated or regulated requirement that companies must meet to be relieved of obligations associated with oil sand activity.
